SPECIAL MEETING
DECEMBER 9, 2003
The meeting of the Hopatcong
Environmental Commission was opened by Mary Takacs at 6:35 p.m. with a
statement that this meeting is held in accordance with the Open Public Meetings
Act, N.J.S.A. 10:4-1 et seq., annual notice having been forwarded to The New
Jersey Herald, The Daily Record and The News-Leader and posted on the bulletin
board maintained in the Municipal Building for public announcements.

ERI RESOLUTION
Mayor Hodson announced that
the reason for this December 9, 2003 Special Meeting is to authorize filing the
Grant Proposal with DEP Office of State Planning for a project to update the
ERI (Natural Resource Inventory). The
deadline for the Grant Proposal is at the end of December 2003. The project is anticipated to cost $4700.00
and the work will be done by the Passaic River Coalition. At the last Mayor and Council Meeting, this
was endorsed and pledged $4700.00. The
total project will cost $4700.00, the amount requested is $2000.00 and the
match will be $2700.00.
The Commission is questioning
the field work that is going to be done on this project and if there will be
any consultants. Mercedes Walker said
she would like to vote on getting the money for the project with the condition
to make an effort to involve the community as much as possible.
Council Liaison, Madeline
McManus suggested that the boy scouts and the girl scouts get involved and see
the fruits of their labor.
Mary Takacs read Resolution
Number 429-03 to the Commission.
Mercedes Walker made a motion
to approve Resolution Number 429-03.
Steve Guerriero seconded the motion and all were in favor. Absent:

CHAIR’S REPORT
Steve Ward gave a report to
Mary Takacs from Amy S. Greene, Environmental Consultants, the inspected
property on Durban Road for evidence of sediment deposition to an embayment of
Lake Hopatcong near Hudson Maxim School to determine the origin of the alleged
sediment running into the Lake. The
findings were that the sediment was from at least two years before the sewer
project.
Dr. Threlkeld’s response to
the letter about the open trash bins was that he was aware of the situation and
as soon as they can afford more trash containers, it will be taken care of.
An oil spill that happened in
June 2003 on Elba Avenue is being contained.
Mr. B. Campbell will speak at
the Lafayette House on “All About Bears” on December 10, 2003.
Hazmat accident on November
22, 2003 on Northwestern Way has been cleaned up.
