Grant Team Working to Link Byram, Hopatcong, and Stanhope Trail Systems

The Tri Community Trail Link Project Team, consisting of members from Byram, Hopatcong
and Stanhope, is still hard at work during the winter ice and snow, having met January 26.

January attendees included, from Hopatcong, Chairman Cliff Lundin and Malcolm Piester, from Byram, Adam Rosenberg, Scott Olson, and Margaret McGarrity, and from Stanhope, Barbara Utz and Janice Hunts. Each municipality is being checked for trail rights-of-way and options for ease of passage. If the weather cooperates, members of the Project Team will be out in March finalizing the preferred connections between the three towns.

Byram and Hopatcong received an Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions (ANJEC) grant in June 2009. They have hired Brenda Holzinger, a consultant who works for
the New York/New Jersey Trails Conference, to help with the project. Stanhope is providing volunteer support to help meet the required local match for the grant.

When plans are complete, volunteers will be needed to help with blazing the connecting
trails, as well as repairing and improving the current trails. If interested in helping out when
the trail work begins, please call Margaret McGarrity, Byram Municipal Building at
(973) 347-2500, ext. 138.
