If
your child is kidnapped: At first realization that your
child is really missing, there are a series of definite steps to be taken before
notification to the law enforcement agencies in your area… 1.
You should utilize the telephone to make inquiries from every possible source of
information on the child's whereabouts. 2.
If transportation is available, an exhaustive search should be made of the area
including school-grounds, playgrounds, recreation and amusement areas, game
arcades and other places the child and his or her friends may frequent. 3.
Every current friend (followed by all former friends) should be called. Every
relative (starting with local and continuing to distant relatives) should also
be contacted. 4.
Call your local police and your state's Missing Persons Bureau. Also, call the
National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-THE- LOST
(800-843-5678). 5.
Distribute a current photo as quickly and as widely as possible. 6.
Have someone by the phone every minute of the day and
night.
7.
Find professional help for children who have been kidnapped or sexually
exploited.
