Carmen Lo Porto, star of the Soap Opera "One
Life To Live", balances a full schedule of acting
work twice a week on the TV show, with his
student world as a Hopatcong Middle School
seventh grader, in addition to an active schedule of
football, basketball and baseball.
Carmen is up at 5 am to go into the studio in
Manhatten twice a week for rehearsal and filming
of the weekly show. He has a tutor to help with
the schoolwork on the set, and he must memorize
a new script each week.
At thirteen years old, Carmen already has quite the resume
for his accomplishments in acting. His roles in the TV and film
worlds include the films "Green Bread", "Haber", "Tom
Doyle Players", "Pride and Glory" and "Father" and television
shows including "The Marinos", "Drug Free America" , "Law
and Order SVU", and "Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade."
Carmen was voted #1 Top Child Actor in Nelson Ratings,
and was nominated for: Outstanding Performance in a TV
series, "Best Supporting Actor at LA Reel Film Festival",
and the Outstanding Younger Actor for TV Guide Canada
for the Soap Opera Spirit Award.
When asked how he balances his schoolwork with his career,
Carmen explains, "I go to a public school. I'm now in middle
school for seventh grade, but when I'm on-set I have to get the
work ahead of time. I bring it on to the set, and there's a tutor
there." Does Carmen find it difficult to learn the lines every
week? "Not really," he explains, "I get the scripts a week ahead
of time, so I go over them little by little every single day. It's
really not that hard."
