One of the most beautiful and significant features of our Borough is Lake Hopatcong,
the largest lake in New Jersey. The Lake was a major resort area from the 1880's
through the 1930's. During the era of Vaudeville and Burlesque it became a popular
attraction for the rich and famous including performers such as Bud Abbot and Milton
Berle. Today visitors still flock from all over the state to enjoy the recreational activities,
excellent restaurants, full-service marinas and old country charm. Many people who
visit end up falling in love with the lake, buying a home, and staying a lifetime.
The Borough of Hopatcong is a residential community with approximately
16,000 people. It is the third largest municipality in Sussex County and easily accessible
via Interstate 80 (exit 28) and State Highways 10, 46 and 206.
