Tax Collector Duties:

The Tax Collector is responsible for the collection of Property Taxes and water and sewer charges.

The Tax Collector is also the Tax Search Official.

The Hopatcong Tax Collector’s office acts as Central Cashier, collecting fees and payments from all other departments, except for the court.

Veteran / Widow of a Veteran
Qualified United States Veterans who served in time of war may be entitled to $250.00 deduction per year.

Senior Citizen/Disabled Persons/Surviving Spouse
Qualified persons over 65 years of age  or 100% permanently & totally disabled, may be entitled to a $250.00 deduction per year.

Property Taxes are Due Quarterly. February 1, May 1, August 1 & November 1. After a 10 Calendar Day Grace Period, Interest Accrues from the Due Date (1st) to the Date of Payment. NJSA 54:4-66. If the grace period falls on a holiday or weekend, the bill will be due the following business day.

Interest
Interest is Charged at 8% for the First $1,500.00 and 18% Over $1,500.00. There is a 6% Year End Penalty Attached to Any Delinquencies Over $10,000, at the End of the Year. NJSA 54:4-67

Options for Payment:

1. If sending payment by mail, please remit your check with the appropriate stub.  If you require a receipt, please include your entire bill along with a stamped, self-addressed envelope.

2. If paying in person, please bring in your check, cash or money order along with your bill OR the appropriate payment stub. If you require a receipt, please bring in your entire bill to be receipted.

3. You can drop your payment in the DROP BOX outside by the front door of the Municipal Building.

Tax Sale N.J.S.A. 54:5-19 through N.J.S.A. 54:5-45.4
